TRIBUTES

Over the years, Forgotten Friends - Mixed Breed Rescue, has had many special friends pass through our proverbial doors. This page was set up to honor the rescued and their families, of all species.

In honor donations can be sent by clicking the donation paw on any Forgotten Friend or Special Needs dog and inserting a special note in the text box. Pictures are also welcome and may be submitted by clicking here. In honor recognition will remain on this page of our site for one year, even after the sponsored dog is placed into their new family.

Brenda Bernard has sponsored Tootsie in honor of her rescued companion, Zanna-Doo!

Hi. This is a message for Deb and everyone else at Mixed Breed. I just wanted to write and let you know that it has now been a year since my previous 9 yr. old border collie, Rooney, died from leukemia. It was a horribly sad time. Filled with chemo and blood transfusions and last, desperate hopes. A couple of weeks after his death, Deb let me foster Flint (now, aka Finn) because my second border collie (Lucy) and I were filled with a terrible loss and emptiness. She sat on the couch, I sat at my desk, and we stared at each other and sighed. Now...a year later...I just wanted to let you know that Deb chose the perfect dog for me. Finn had erlichia ( a tick disease) when he came to me, and a strange eye infection, and he certainly wasn't a spring chicken (or spring puppy?). He was on various medications, and estimated to be anywhere between 5-7 years old. But, boy, what a great dog Finn is! And he has recovered from all of his previous ailments. He follows me everywhere and seems so grateful about his "real" home, i.e. he is so eager to please. He comes eagerly when he is called, always wagging, and has the most profound lil' eyes. He has a lovely friendship with Lucy; he kisses her, and they romp all over the place, across fields and creeks. I have no idea about Finn's past, but I am very grateful that you connected him to Lucy and I for his future. Particularly now, around the holidays, my house feels happy this year, when last year it was so incredibly sad. It's very hard to imagine life without Finn now.... Thank you! And my best.... The Reason - author unknown
(to you from all your rescue dogs)
I would've died that day if not for you.
I would've given up on life if not for your kind eyes.
I would've used my teeth in fear if not for your gentle hands.
I would have left this life believing that all humans don't care
Believing there is no such thing as fur that isn't matted
Skin that isn't flea bitten
Good food and enough of it
Beds to sleep on
Someone to love me
To show me I deserve love just because I exist.
Your kind eyes, your loving smile, your gentle hands
Your big heart saved me...
You saved me from the terror of the pound,
Soothing away the memories of my old life.
You have taught me what it means to be loved.
I have seen you do the same for other dogs like me.
I have heard you ask yourself in times of despair
Why you do it
When there is no more money, no more room, no more homes
You open your heart a little bigger, stretch the money a little tighter
Make just a little more room to save one more like me.
I tell you with the gratitude and love that shines in my eyes
In the best way I know how
Reminding you why you go on trying.
I am the reason
The dogs before me are the reason
As are the ones who come after.
Our lives would've been wasted, our love never given
We would die if not for you.
