You are gone from this earthly world but not from my heart. You appear in a park on a pretty day, on the porch on a starlit night, in the stream when we camp, I hear your paws walking on the hardwood floors, I smell your wonderful doggie smell, I turn but alas, you are not there. And yet you are, in many ways you are, forever my faithful, loving shadow. The bond was strong and we will meet again when my time on earth is finished, I will never go where you are not.

Moose

Our little Moose passed away at the age of 18. Her trip to us started with a drug bust in an East TX apartment complex. The drugs were gone, but the dog was found alone and very hungry. The police turned her over to a couple who started searching for a home.

She found her way to my dad, who gave her to my grandmother, who gave her to me. She had advanced heartworms, heart and lung damage, needed to have 18 teeth pulled and was not spayed. We weren't looking for a chihuahua, but by the time we treated her problems to make her adoptable she'd become one of our pack. She had seven great years with us and will be missed!

We miss you and love you very much.......... Jeannie, Jeremy, Travis and Dylan

Happy Girl

Dearest Happy Girl,

Thank you for giving us 16 years of love and happiness. You were the best! Ride your jet ski, climb trees, bark at squirrels, catch your Frisbee, help Pops with his BBQ, run pain free and be forever Happy over the Rainbow Bridge. Thank you for sending us Zanna Doo. We will see you again someday! Love, Brenda, David and Matthew

Poor little Tiny Tim never got to see his first Christmas! This little Heeler boy was struck by a car and broke his leg in several places. He died during surgery. We know he can now run again and is pain free just over the Rainbow Bridge.

Marley

Dear Marley, your time with us was too short. You didn't even get to have your first Christmas. So sad that whoever owned you before you came to us didn't bother to vaccinate you. Your suffering was all so preventable. We know you are pain free now and we want to know you are missed.

In memory of Jack, a faithful companion, who lived to the age of 15. Jack had been with me since before I knew Jason or had Ben... before I graduated from college, before I became a nurse, before I moved to Texas. He was perhaps my oldest friend, and certainly had stood by me through the many joys and challenges of my life like only a beloved pet can. He will be very missed by our family. Love, The Porters

Sweet Irish, your were My best friend and companion for 18 years, I will never find another cat like you. You are sorely missed! Mark

A donation to our dogs was made by John and Mary Denlinger in loving memory of their son Mark's cat Irish. Sweet Irish was a loving and loyal companion to Mark for 18 years and is dearly missed.

BEVO 1990'ish - 2007

Found Black/Lab/Pit Mix@ 2yrs. old abandoned somewhere in Austin’burbs, sometime in the early 90s. If this was your dog, you blew it. What a good smart boy. We'll miss you. Loved by Toni, Frances, Julian and everyone he ever met.

Dear little Tiffany was the last puppy left from a litter of 4. People repeatedly overlooked her at adoption days because she was extremely scared of the outside world. She spent months at the dog ranch waiting for her turn in a foster home, only to find the perfect family for her just 2 weeks later! Tiffany’s picture-perfect life was tragically cut short with a terrible accident. Just a week after arriving in her new home, the extra loop of her no-slip / martingale collar, a device intended to protect her from escaping on walks outdoors, caused her death when it caught on a door knob and she could not get free.

Tiffany did not die in vain. Now Forgotten Friends Mix Breed Rescue is trying to get the word out about Tiffany’s tragedy and let dog owners know that training collars “martingales, chokers, etc“ can be good training tools, but should NEVER be left on a dog when it is unsupervised or playing with other dogs. These collars can become stuck on a crate, another dog’s tooth, a tree limb or any number of other things and cause injury or death in a matter of seconds.

Your family and foster family love you, Tiff. We hope you aren't scared anymore.

A donation was made to the memory of sweet Tiffany by the Porter family. She is loved and greatly missed by all.

TILLIE JEAN

One of God's true gifts to me, passed away September 2nd when the very hard decision to euthanize was made for this very beloved dog. Tillie Jean came to me from a kill shelter. She was a skittish but sweet girl. She became ill right away and a week or so later we realized she was blind. She started to get better after many medications and then declined with neurological failure. This darling, chipper girl, who fought hard and never complained, was a wonderful example of the true heart of canine companionship.

DUMPLING

Dearest Dumpling, I wish we could have given you more than 4 extra months of life but I know you enjoyed your time with us running, strolling around the pond and playing with your foster buds. We thought it would be Cushings Disease that sent you to the bridge, little did we figure on mammary cancer. We hope you get your girlish figure back, regain your coat and enjoy many meals on the other side of the rainbow!

DOLITTLE

Dear Doc - so sweet, so cute, so small, our little Doolittle. We will miss you and are very sad you had to leave our world so soon! We wish you a healthy body and spirit on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge, butterflies to chase and green grass to play or rest on.

GINGER

Dear Ginger- Saying "goodbye" to you was so hard-- you were so beautiful and soft and it is so sad to think about how scary life was for you. Hopefully you are full of peace and contentment over the Rainbow Bridge. You touched many people in your months with us, and many of us will carry your memory in our hearts.

JOSIE

Dear Josie- We are so sorry that your life was so very short! In the few weeks we had together, you gave your foster family much joy and brought smiles to so many who saw you and loved you on sight. In your honor we have saved the lives of your brothers and we will do our best to make sure all of your siblings get the wonderful Forever Families you deserved as well. You were loved!

DUKE

Handsome Duke, the earth was blessed with your sweet spirit for too short a time, your memory will remain in the hearts of those who loved you. This sweet boy lost his battle with parvo.

LIL TREASURE

Little Treasure most certainly earned her name with her fosters! This girl entered rescue in horrible condition and suffering. She had as much Vet care as she needed but in the end it could not save her life. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge 5/20/07 and has left behind many loved ones, canine and human alike!

A donation was made by Dave Ransome in memory of Abel "Pop" Gagneaux to keep his love alive in our furry friends.

A donation was made by Dave Ransome, in memory of the life and good works of Charles "Chick" and Ann Lynn Colvin, to further rescue efforts to save abandoned dogs and puppies.

SASSY

Dearest Sassy, you will never be forgotten! You came to us as a small puppy and left our home in too short a time. We miss watching you herding bugs, swimming in the pond and playing with Tye! You were a treasure and oh, so loving a companion. If you are not in Heaven, I want to go wherever you are now!

SADIE

Dear Sadie, You were just the best girl. We are so sorry that you had the loss of your first family but you finally found your forever home with tons of love and friends! So very sad then to have your sweet life cut short by cancer. Many, many people will hold you in their hearts and thoughts forever! We love you!

JAKE

Jake, you had such a rough first year of your life, then just when we got you one big paw ahead, life dealt you two big paws back. Then there were more back then forward. Now it is our prayer that you are looking down on us with your beautiful blue eyes, pain and hunger free. Run like the wind, our Jakie!

SHADRACH

In Loving Memory of Shadrach. Our hearts were broken when you left us. Love always, Christie

JAMES BROWN

James Brown was a popular guy. He had a huge fan club and will be missed by many. He was a lucky fella to land in a home that loved him so much.

In memory of Bombay (Mini Schnauzer) and Fred (Catahoula). They were, and will always be our beloved friends, sons, brothers and companions. We love you both so much. You will always remain in God's arms and in our Hearts. We will smile when we re-unite with you at the Rainbow Bridge.

COOKIE Feb 1, 1993 - Oct 16, 2006

Cookie was a little red head spitfire her whole life. She was never afraid of any dog or any thing. She stood her ground and took no bull from anyone no matter how big they were. Cookie liked to tap dance with her front feet whenever she wanted or needed something. There will never be another that could fill her pawprints.

Shaggy was a fluffy cuddle bunny when she came to us from a Mixed Breed foster mom. Always ready for a walk, a car ride, a trip to the park or a swim at the lake, Shaggy was the queen of our back yard and object of our affections. Hank was a compact model cow dog and was built like a tank. Hank came to us through Mixed Breed with a huge capacity for companionship. On the ground, in the air or at the lake, Hank and his tennis ball were inseparable.

A donation to our dog's care has been made by Dave Ransome in memory of the life and passing of Ray Gaspard's Mother, Mrs. Lou Vella Gaspard who was known to rescue a number of dogs in her day :)

Coco (choc lab mix) was adopted from Austin's Town Lake Animal Shelter when she was 3 months old. She was brought in by someone who found her starving and fearful and was brought back to health by the Town Lake employees.

I met her when we entered a play area for the puppies and she jumped into my arms. Although she was rather hyper she would calm down so completely when she got attention that she earned the nickname of "The Love Dog".

When she was 2 years old I took her to be tested as a pet assisted therapy dog for Brackenridge's Woody Program. To my amazement she passed all the required tests and spent two years going every week often in costume to brighten the days of kids in the hospital. She always knew when "hospital days" were and when she saw me getting ready she would go jump in the bath tub to get the required washing before going to see the kids.

Coco went into retirement due to bad knees but remained until the very end an exceptionally loving dog. She spent 14 years with us getting as much attention as she could, stealing food , policing the cats and carrying our shoes to different locations in the house.

Thanks to Lynn Simpson for her donation in loving memory of her beloved little Bear Bear. 18 wonderful years with this angel.

Thanks to Terrie Beloin for her donation to Pancho in loving memory of her beloved Ada.

In memory of beautiful Brodie: I was truly blessed to have had you for that short amount of time. Every second with you brought joy and happiness to my life. Christy

In memory of Gracie the dog in honor of her owners Josh & Sande Millstein.

One day back in 1989 someone had a dog they didn't want anymore - they drove her out the country and dumped her on the highway - she was pregnant and birthed a litter of puppies in a dried creek bed and being a good mother she set off to find food for her brood. She hit the jackpot when she found a farm with lots of noisy slow moving chickens. She kept herself and her puppies fed for a few weeks - her good luck ran out - one day she went back and the farmer was waiting for her - he shot and killed her.

That should have been the end for the puppies - it would be a matter of time before they were eaten by coyotes but my tender hearted friend Sande found them and found homes for all the puppies. She kept 3 of them Buster, who had issues and had to be put down, Spot who died last year and the Alpha dog of them all: Gracie the Dog age 16.

Gracie, you will be missed!

Thank you to Lisa Morrill, past adopter and dog lover, for her generous donation in Memory of her beloved dog, "Boy".

Big Sammy...I still see you loping out into the yard to chase your ball. You taught me about loyalty, devotion, and unconditional love. I've still got your ball, and I look forward to throwing it with you again someday, my handsome boy.

Sweet Faith...I take comfort knowing that you knew you were loved so much during the last few years of your short life. I'll always miss you, I'll always love you, and I can see the day where you sit on my lap again. Dan

She had a wonderful life, starting as the alpha pup with raccoon eyes in New Mexico, growing up in Colorado, maturing in Seattle with that Cleopatra look, and spending her golden years in Austin. She would have turned 18 in February, but the past few days she was really uncomfortable and was no longer enjoying the effort it took to keep on going, her Vet and I made the decision to ease her passage over the Rainbow Bridge. Those who only knew her as a Senior, trust me, she was awesome in her younger years. Those who did not know her, I know you'll understand how I feel losing a companion who has been with me for 10 years. Paden was an amazing dog. - Joann Starks

In Memory of the life and passing of Tom Meyer, the Father of Gretchen Meyer, donations were made towards the care of our rescued dogs by Teresa Fergeson and Scott and Cheryl Willrich.

Jeannette Gunn had a genuine passion for saving cats and dogs. She was forever helping people find good homes for strays and highly encouraged that every animal be spayed and neutered. She died unexpectedly Thanksgiving day and will be sorely missed. Be assured that her animals friends have happily greeted her on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. She is survived by her husband, Daniel. A donation was made in her name by Terri and Charles Desa.

Logan (AKA Truman) was our gentle giant who came to us through Mixed Breed Rescue in 1999. He was emaciated, weak and heartworm positive when Deborah rescued him. We fell in love at first sight and he was a joy to us for the last 6 years. Many times we thought he should have other names: Velcro or Klinger because of his devotedness to us, Gater because he would not swim, but rather lie down in shallow water like an alligator, Hoover because he was always at the ready to swoop up whatever food fell on the floor, Baryshnikov because he would jump up and perform a full circle in the air when he was excited to go on a walk or a ride in the car. He was, in other words, all the best things a dog should be. We will love and miss him always. Love, Barb

Warren & Jan Schellhase (parents of Fred, Faye & Rose Schellhase) have sponsored Sheba in memory of their beloved Himmy & Heehaw.

Gary H. has sponsored Ladybug in memory of his beloved friend, Danny! Danny has crossed the rainbow bridge, but lives on in his heart.

Our Eden was a very special girl with soulful brown eyes and a ready doggie smile. She came to us from an area kill shelter where she was an injured stray. Eden was successfully treated for mange, ear and skin infections and had surgery to repair a fractured elbow. This wonderful survivor came a long way with us to be struck down by some kind of toxin or poison, we will probably never know. The only humane choice was for us to send her, with our love, over the rainbow bridge where she now plays free of suffering and pain and awaits us when our time to join her arrives.

If you've ever known the joyful sound
Of barks that fill the air-
A sloppy kiss, a friendly paw,
A quiet adoring stare-
If you've ever had a special friend
To share a tear or two,
Or maybe just a wagging tail
To lift you when you're blue-
If you've ever felt the wrenching pain
That only death can send,
Then you have lost
Not just a dog-
You've truly lost a friend.
But God is good and treasures love
And there at Heaven's gate-
A sloppy kiss, a joyful bark-
Your precious friend awaits.
