Mark was abandoned at the Town Lake Animal Center by his guardians of eight years to be killed because they found he had heartworms and no longer wanted him. He was a sweet and kind little sable Sheltie with a heart of gold. That heart just couldn't carry him far because of a horrible case of heartworms.
Mixed Breed Rescue chose to rescue Mark and give him treatment or, at least, dignity in his passing. Unfortunately it turned out to be the latter, as his case was too advanced; he died at his foster's home. He was buried in her back yard with his favorite things: a box of Velveeta cheese, his collar, tag, and toys.
We want Mark to be remembered and to have his legacy be that others have the chance that he didn't have -- the chance to have a healthy heart and a long life.

Heartworm disease is an easily prevented disease that is transported by mosquitos and prevented by a monthy pill available at any Veterinary office. Each of these wonderful dogs is suffering from a life threatening illness that would never have happened if their owners had cared enough to give them "one little pill a month." |
