Forgotten Friends-Mixed Breed Rescue is recruiting new fosters to help our group save abandoned and helpless dogs. Fostering is a mix of joy, fun, reward and sometimes sadness but it is an experience that will forever leave you knowing that you have truly made a significant difference for a living creature.

Below is some pertinent information on foster requirements and what our group does to support you as a foster home:

Our group supplies all medical care, including heartworm pills, spaying/neutering, and vaccinations. We assign you a "buddy" to help with training or behavioral issues that may arise when you begin the journey with your new foster.

You provide a safe, loving, supportive home environment and good quality food for your foster. Any house training, obedience training, exercise and play time would be greatly appreciated by your foster and the group!

Our participating Veterinarians are used for all Veterinary care, costs are kept down and fosters do not have to pay out-of-pocket. Compassion Animal Hospital in Liberty Hill and the Griffith Small Animal Hospital in Central Austin are the two Vets we use most often.

We ask our fosters to commit to bringing their foster dog to at least one adoption day a month, which are held the second and third Saturdays of each month. Occasionally there is a conflict with a fund raiser, and we will not have an adoption that week. It is very helpful to our group and to the best placement of your foster, to have you stay at the adoption event when at all possible.

Some of our dogs will be house trained but most will be an unknown and crate training is highly recommended. We will supply the information on crate training and when possible, the crate.

Input that we obtain from your foster application and in communications with you, will help us choose the best foster candidate together.

Before adoptions are approved, we screen all homes and make the adoption decisions along with input from the foster home. The adoption fee, which goes to pay for the dog's Veterinary expenses, is collected by our group adoption coordinator.

You need only commit to fostering a dog once. If you are still interested after the dog's adoption, we would be thrilled to have you foster again if you choose. If the animal you foster does not work out in your home, we will switch out animals as soon as another foster home opens up.
