Applications are evaluated on the best match possible for our dogs and not on a first application basis. It is the commitment of each of our Fosters to find the best home possible for each and every one of their Fosters. Some homes may be a better fit than another and we trust our Fosters to make that decision for their dog.
Many of our dogs are living in a private "mini" shelter environment, so evaluations like house training, good with cats, etc. may not be available. These dogs are all waiting for appropriate Foster homes to have an opening so we will be in a position to have more pertinent information that will help with their placement.
When your application is received, it will be forwarded to the appropriate Foster home. All Fosters are Volunteers and will be answering your applications as soon as time is available
The Foster will discuss your needs and their Foster's needs and personality to see if they and you feel their Foster may fit into your home. We have found that often an application may not suit the dog that is being applied for, but is just perfect for another. In this case we will refer the applicant to that dog and away from the one for which they placed their application. We will also work with you to find the best dog possible for your needs, limitations and desires!
Each Foster can deny, redirect or confirm an adoption. Individual Fosters have their own guidelines in different areas for placement of their dogs.****** We normally do not allow adoptions outside of the general Austin area or allow out of State adoptions.******
A call to your Vet will be placed to check on sterilization of your present pets, current vaccinations and monthly Heartworm preventative for any dogs you may own. A home check will be scheduled to check on proper fencing and living conditions for our dog. If you rent, written rental permission must be supplied.
The dog you wish to adopt will then be placed into your home on a one - two week trial basis during which it remains a Forgotten Friends dog until you and the Foster agree that you can give the dog it's forever home. At that time, we will schedule the completion of the adoption, transfer of medical records and payment of the adoption fee to help reimburse us for the dog's medical care. Once a dog is listed as PENDING, it is no longer available for applications.
Our adoption fees start at $150. Adoption fees may be different based upon a variety of factors: breed, purebred or mix, size, age, medical expenses such as heartworm testing (and treatment if necessary), etc. The adoption fees pay for the dogs vet care & supplies (such as food & treats). The dog you adopt will have been health checked by a veterinarian, spayed or neutered, wormed, given age appropriate shots, microchipped and any other medical needs. Any surplus money from an adoption will be used to cover medical expenses for another dog. FORGOTTEN FRIENDS-MBR is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Our volunteers will often pay for many of these expenses themselves when donations are small or non-existent.
If you are interested in more than one dog, you only need to fill out one application, just list all of the dogs in the "dog you are interested in" field. We appreciate your interest in adopting a dog from Forgotten Friends and look forward to receiving your application.
